So how would you make people watch an anime about a photographer, a mysterious girl, and a bad guy who’ll do anything for money? Add heavy doses of violence and fanservice. And yes, this is what this series does.
Starting this series was pretty much on a whim. Like a lot of decent series, this one got me hooked pretty early on and kept me until the end. I looked forward to episodes any free moment I had. If I were to compare the style of this anime (not the genre), I’d most likely compare it to Gantz and Elfien Lied sheerly for the amount of violence and taboo subjects covered. For fans of those two series, this is a welcome watch, since anime of this “style” comes out once every other blue moon. Others who haven’t seen the series will likely have the initial shock value of what’s to come and may be hooked or turned off of it pretty quickly. (Notes: This series is definately not for younger audiences.)
The series has fantastic animation, everything is fluid, from action to drama, most of it is done very well. Music is pretty upbeat, alittle catchy, and fits the mood overall. If I were to guess, I’d bank that Speed Grapher had a pretty solid budget during production.
There’s actually a lot I want to say about this series, but since this is a generic overlook of the series, I’m not shooting to throw out spoilers this time. I’ll note that the story picks up pretty well, and well,… a lot of the characters are cooler than they originally start out as. (My opinion ofcourse.)
